IDA - videos online

A few weeks ago, the University of Oslo and the Natural History Museum in Oslo arranged a symposium on Ida. Unfortunately, I make my living some saturdays, so I was unable to attend. But luckily, the videos are out on the intertoobs, ready to be enjoyed.

Sure there was a lot of humdrum about her. Now there are videos explaining their findings freely available. It's actually pretty interesting stuff, to see how they figure things out in paleontology, even for a geneticist-wannabe like myself.

Here is Jørn Hurum, generally a very entertaining guy, being all serious and talking about Ida's skull structure:

We are so used to hearing bleeps that our mind automatically fills in the blank now with what it expects to be there. This is just one of the many things that your brain will do for you without you needing to think about it. And, as we often point out here, your brain's conclusion about what should be there, is wrong.

Since this is Sesame Street, it leads to a quite humorous result.
